Does anybody know of any web based messengers accessible with jaws. I have a friend who can't use the regular programs for msn or aim and so far nothing is really working. She is trying to use Meebo but its proving too difficult.

You can try web messenger at http://webmessenger.msn.com.
It's mainly ok with jaws. The only problem is that you can't get the new messages somebody is sending unless you do alt tab to go to a different window and come back to the conversation or if you click on the send button even if you didn't type anything. These are the ways to get new messages.
Appart from that it seams to work ok.
And also it won't work very well if you have got pop up blockers. You have to allow this programme through your pop up software.
I hope it helps.

or, you can just refresh the page with JAWSKey plus escape.

I've tried web based messengers and they seem not to work well with jaws.

Howabout just F5 for a refresh? One key does it all...

In webmessenger you don't need to refresh the page as the messages appear in real time just like with the messenger software. If you use another screen reader the messages appear correctly. It's just with jaws that they don't so i would do only the jaws key escape.
It might work also if you press f5 but i am not sure.

oh yeah and i forgot our schools block msn2go.com which i think was the easiest to use. That's why i'm looking for something to try at school.

the f5 is a generic refresh (even sighties can use it), whereas the jaws key + escape is a refresh of the virtual buffer (reserved only for the priviledged class (blindies)). <grin>

Therefore, if the problem is a jaws problem, the the jaws refresh (insert+escape is probably the one to use.).

Hope this makes sense.
